Implications of Super Eagles’ Loss to Les Fauves

On a day that everything went wrong for the Super Eagles at the Teslim Balogun stadium, the team lost to a very lowly rated Les Fauves of Central Africa Republic, ranked 124th in the world by FIFA.

The number one implication is that this loss is a wake up call to the Super Eagles and it will not be a surprise if the players redeem their image in the reverse fixture on Sunday in Douala, Cameroon by beating the same team that humbled the three – time African champions on home soil.
Les Fauves ( The Wild Beasts) will come out to play with confidence on Sunday, with the mindset of repeating a win over the Super Eagles, but victory will be to Nigeria at the end of 90 mins.

Secondly, despite this loss, the Super Eagles are still topping the group. The closest to Nigeria is Cape Verde with four points after beating Liberia at away same day Nigeria lost.

Nigeria still have the advantage of finishing as leaders of the group, but the third implication, which is very dangerous is that the Super Eagles may fall out of top five rated African teams.
Nigeria is rated 34th in the world by FIFA, which makes it 5th best in Africa. This shocking sad loss to Central Africa Republic ranked 124 by FIFA is capable of pushing Super Eagles down in the next FIFA ranking.

If this happens, it then means that Nigeria may likely play the likes of Senegal rated 20th in the world and 1st in Africa. Tunisia is 25th in the world and 2nd in Africa. Algeria, current African champions are rated 30th in the world, 3rd in Africa and Morocco is 33rd in the world and 4th in Africa in the knock out stage of the Qatar 2022 world cup qualifiers in March.

But whatever be the implications of this horrific lost to Central Africa Republic, this may be a blessing in disguise that will make the technical crew and the players give Nigerians the desired results in the subsequent games enroute to Qatar.
