In the aftermath of World Athletics (WA) recognising Tonobok Okowa as the authentic President of Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), the Delta state – born sports administrator says he will reach out to the other factional leaders to chart a way forward for Athletics in Nigeria.
He disclosed this to www.totorinews.com after the welcome party for Team Nigeria Junior World Athletics contingent held at the MKO stadium, Abuja on Tuesday. Team Nigeria had a terrific championship in Kenya, as they gave sports loving Nigerians something great to cheer with their scintillating performances and finished third on the log at the end of the World Junior Athletics Championship.
“It is good to know that the World Athletics has spoken out. I see myself as the authentic President of AFN. I will reach out to them. I will not fight anybody,” Okowa told www.totorinews.com.
“I’ve never had any issue with them on a personal ground. I only contested an election and I won. Whatever that happened in the past is in the past. It is not for me to dwell on,” he added.
“The World Athletics has recognised me as AFN President. Ibrahim Gusau and Sunday Adeleye are my personal friends. I will not fight my friends because of one position. I’m definately going to reach out to them.
“My prayer is that they would want to really get close. I will plead with them as much as possible for us to sit down and find a way forward,” he said.
