Former Eagles defender reveals why Nigeria will qualify for 2026 World Cup…says Eguavoen is capable

Austin Eguavoen, Interim coach of the Super Eagles
Despite treading on a very slippery ground after earning three points from four games in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, former Super Eagles defender, Chibuzor has revealed why the team will qualify for the football mundial.
Okonkwo, who dazzled as a right full back in the Super Eagles under Samson Siasia is of the firm opinion that Nigeria will navigate her way successfully in the qualifiers and land at the world cup.
According to Okonkwo, Super Eagles are known to soar high during difficult times, adding that the team comes out with better performances and results that will calm the nerves of Nigerians.
“I believe that the Super Eagles will qualify for the World Cup. The reason is because i believe that in difficulties, the team can do better, i believe strongly,” Okonkwo told www.totorinews.com exclusively in Abuja.
“The players are aware of what is at stake. I believe that they can qualify for the World cup and AFCON 100%, I believe.

“I think with the two matches i watched them played against Rwanda and Benin, they will do well, they played very well and they will do well, they played like a team.
He said further he does not mind an indigeneous coach to handle the Super Eagles, as he praised the efforts of Austin Eguavoen, the interim coach of the team, nothing that he is capable of improving the fortunes of the team if given the needed support.
“For me, i do not mind a Nigerian coaching the Super Eagles. If you check the records of coaches that have won the Nation’s cup for the Super Eagles, the name of an indigenes coach is there. Stephen Keshi did it and he also qualified the team for world cup.
“Eguavoen is a good coach. He is one of the coaches i played under in the national team. All he needs is just the support from the football administrators and the players,” he said.
