At a time during the just concluded NPFL 2021 season, Sunshine Stars of Akure were languishing on the 19th position and there was a plan to sell the club, but one man kicked against it, reports www.totorinews.com exclusively.
In an exclusive chat with www.totorinews.com at the venue of NFF Extraordinary Congress in Benin, Edo state, Otunba Sunday Dele Ajayi has revealed why he vehemently opposed the sale of the darling club of the good people of Ondo state.
“Sunshine Stars were on the 19th position on the NPFL table, it was a very embarrassing moment and the idea to sell the club came up, but I kicked against it,” Ajayi told www.totorinews.com.
“I kicked against it because you cannot sell a house that is depliticated. It must be renovated and become attractive for purchase and that was the case of Sunshine Stars.
“I had to mobilise all the football stakeholders in the state to be united to ensure that the team avoid relegation, which eventually happened.
“Sunshine stars escaped relegation by the grace of God, not by human efforts. I assured the state government of Ondo state that the team will not be relegated and I thank God that it happened.
“We will make concerted efforts to ensure that the team competes for continental ticket in the new season,” he said.
