The 2019 edition of the Ogunjobi Gold Cup Tourney recorded its first victory as Cynosure FC of Abakaliki pipped their Nation-Wide League One (NLO) foe Wasiu Alabelewe 1-0 in the second game of MatchDay 1.
The Abakaliki team who were semi finalists in the last edition in Akure, got off in a superb start hitting the target thrice as Alabelewe had their goalkeeper, Dare to thank as they were all square in 1st half.
Their attacking threat then paid off in the 63rd minute as Abuma King scored a superb half volley.
King profited from a poor defending in the box to shoot at the top right corner of Alabelewe’s goal.
Coach Deji Ayeni while expressed delight after his secure the maximum 3points said: “It was a fair performance from my players, though I was not expecting a 100 percent from them it being the 1st game in the tourney.
“I commend my players for the technical play as we dominated much of the ball possession and the goal was superb. King is not new scoring such goals as we see him do that during training.”
Cynosure will have scores to settle with Sunshine Stars on Friday.
Recall they lost to the Owena Waves in the semi final of 2018 edition in Akure.
