Any group or persons plotting the removal of Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), through different clandestine activities are simply displaying ignorance of the statutes governing football in the country.
This was disclosed to www.totorinews.com by Yakubu Sarma, the chairman of Gombe State FA, who informed that the new leadership of the NFF led by Alh. Ibrahim Musa Gusau is not in any transfer market to sign a new General Secretary for the Federation, adding that Dr. Sanusi has a contract that will run till December, 2023.
He also revealed that there was no time that members of the NFF congress or any perceived kitchen cabinet had meetings with the Hon. Minister with intend of removing or searching for a new GS , rather they only had meeting with Players Union, which was a follow -up to the earlier ones they had with the body before the NFF elections and was not at the directive of NFF President, Gusau.
He said what is paramount to concerned congress members is peaceful coexistence among the football stakeholders in Nigeria.
“Heating up the football polity in Nigeria football through false information will only creating unnecessary problems. The truth is this, there was never a time when concern congress members of the NFF met with the Hon.Minister nor any body with intention of searching or replacement of GS,” Sarma told www.totorinews.com.
“The concern congress members that met with Players union, did not do so at the instance of the NFF President, but as a follow up of their engagement with the Players’ Union which started long before the elective congress.
He also said the NFF Statutes especially article 63 is clearly on the office of the General Secretary and the new NFF board will not go against the statutes.
“The position of the General Secretary is a provision of the statutes, and the present GS is on 5 -year contract that would last till 2023.
“Therefore, it’s not something that one would just wake up over night and say he is removed. Clandestine activities cannot remove NFF GS overnight.
“For me, it’s the prerogative of the President to renew the contract at its expiration, subjected to endorsement of the executive commitee members and approval bt the congress. The President doesn’t have any kitchen cabinet, except his executive commitee members and the congress.
“People should be weary of those whose intention is to create bad blood and confusion. Gusau is focused on taking Nigeria Football to a higher level and cannot be distracted,” he said.
