Plateau United celebrates their goal against AS Mandji of Gabon

Nigerian flagbearers, Plateau United and Rivers United have both progressed to the next round of the CAF Champions league, reports

Plateau United needed 63rd minute goal scored by Haggai Katoh to secure 1-0 victory over AS Mandji of Gabon at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abiola on Sunday evening.

Fidelis Ilechukwu tutored side missed so many goalscoring opportunities and there is a need for the team to improve that very important aspect of the game when they meet Esperance of Tunisia in the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Rivers United qualified for the next round despite losing 1-0 to Watanga FC of Liberia courtsey of Farsedu Logan spot kick goal converted in the 16th minute of the game.

The Portharcourt based team qualified on 3-1 aggregate having beaten the Liberian side 3-0 in the first leg.

Rivers United will tackle Wydad Casablanca, the defending champions in the next round of the competition.
