Awoniyi’s goal condemns Liverpool to another defeat

Taiwo Awoniyi

A 55th minute goal scored by Taiwo Awoniyi was all Nottingham Forest needed to win the maximum points at stake, which also condemned Liverpool to their third defeat in the England premiership this season, reports www.totorinews.com.

Awoniyi, who signed for Liverpool in 2016 never played competitive game for the club, rather he was loaned to several clubs before he eventually signed for Mainz 05 in 2021, from where he moved to Nottingham Forest at the beginning of this season scored the winner from a close range after his initial attempt hit the post.

But in a show of respect, the Super Eagles striker did not celebrate his goal against Liverpool, the club that cleared the way for him to have a feel of European football as a young teenager, after helping the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria to win the FIFA U 17 world cup in 2013 hosted by United Arab Emirates.

Awoniyi has now scored three goals in the EPL this season and this win is very vital for Nottingham Forest, which entered the fixture rooted at the bottom, but this feat has given the team the hope of survival in the England top flight.
