Akpoborie backs Labbadia to succeed

Former Super Eagles striker, Jonathan Akpoborie is optimistic that Bruno Labbadia will succeed as the new coach of the Super Eagles.
According to Akpoborie, who played in German bundesliga during his career, Labbadia, a German, is a modern- day coach and he will need the support of the NFF and the entire football stakeholders in Nigeria to succeed.
“He’s a modern-day coach, the system has to support the coach, we have to support him and the NFF have to give this man everything he needs to improve our team,” Akpoborie said on a radio interview.
“He is also a well-known coach, who is an upgrade on the coaches who have handled our national team. He’s up there, I am happy they have got a coach of that calibre.”

“He was a prolific striker in his playing days and we enjoyed a healthy rivalry,” he added.

Speaking on the tensed atmosphere about the qualification of the Super Eagles for the 2026 World Cup, Akpoborie affirmed that if there is a strong synergy between Labbadia and the players, Nigeria will qualify, noting that the German tactician is equal to other European coaches who tinkered the Super Eagles in the past.

“When the chemistry between the coach and the players comes together we will qualify for the World Cup,” predicted the former Nigeria international.

“Tactically he is up there, he is not one of the best in Germany but he’s up there compared to the European coaches who have handled the Super Eagles.
