Few hours after submitting his candidacy for second term in office as President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), on Wednesday, Ahmad Ahmad has been found guilty of breaching various codes of ethics, www.totorinews.com reports.
The investigatory chamber of football’s world governing body determined that the Madagascar-born football administrator has breached various codes of conduct.
Totori News further gathered that the alleged breaches include Mr Ahmad’s role in the controversial deal involving Tactical Steel.
Tactical Steel is an obscure French gym manufacturer, managed by an old friend of Mr Ahmad’s then attaché Loic Gerand, which supplied sportswear equipment to Caf in 2017 after cancelling the deal with Puma.
The strange facts that came with the deal indicated that Puma was worth just under $250,000, while the alternative deal with Tactical Steel – for 22,000 items instead of 15,000 – came over $1m.
In modern times when news that does not favour a party is most times classified as fake news, Ahmad insisted of his innocence, stating that he never committed any offence and the source of such information is rooted in falsehood, malicious with the intent to defame his character.
And just few days ago, Mr Ahmad refused to comment on the investigation.
“I don’t want to talk about it, especially as the investigation/inquiry is ongoing – (and) there is a respect of confidentiality surrounding an ongoing process,” he said.
Fifa came out with the verdict last year after conducting an audit that CAF under the leadership of Ahmad was not pleasant financially, as the world’s ruling football body questioned the accounting, governance and payments in CAF.
After not being satisfied, the audit recommended further investigation into the deal with Tactical Steel and a second audit was conducted earlier this year and finally ended in July.
Ahmad is not a stranger to being investigated on corruption as the French anti-corruption had also questioned the African football chief in Paris in June 2019, but was allowed to breach a fresh air after not been charged with any offence.
Presidential elections in CAF takes place in March 2021 in Morocco, with the registration deadline for candidates ending on 12 November and from all indications, it may really ugly for Ahmad, who made history in Africa when he defeated Issa Hayatou to emerge as CAF President in 2017.
He risks being banned for 15 years or possibly life ban depending on the final judgment from FIFA and if he is not satisfied with the judgement, he can appeal at the Court of Arbitration in Sports, the supreme legal power in Sport.
