Egypt, the host nation of AFCON U 20 tournament have lined up friendly games with Zambia U 20 to prepare the team for the task of playing Senegal, Nigeria and Mozambique at the group stage of the competition, reports www.totorinews.com.
Egypt have also invited four foreign based professionals to the squad, as the host nation looks forward to how to survive their opponents like Nigeria and Senegal in the group.
Hoffenheim defender Tebo Gabriel is one of the four foreign based professionals invited to the team.
Born in Germany, Gabriel plays mainly as a centre-back, but can also do a job at CDM, and has been regular for Hoffenheim U17 this season, featuring 12 times and missing just one game.
The squad list also saw the inclusion of of three foreign-based players, including FC Vizela goalkeeper Ahmed Nader El-Sayed, Udinese forward Salah Basha and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mostafa Ashraf.
The 2023 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations will take place in Egypt between February 18 to March 12 as the hosts will look for their first title since 2013.
Egypt missed the previous edition in Mauritania in 2021, having withdrawn from the qualifiers after being hit with more than a dozen COVID-19 infections.
The Pharaohs won the U20 Nations Cup four times in 1981, 1991, 2003 and 2013. Nigeria are the record winners with seven titles.
